5 Tips to Create the Best Skin Care Routine

May 29, 2018 in Beauty, Health & Wellness - 2 Comments - 5 min read

There is so much information out there regarding what the best skin care routine is and the products to use. This guide compresses the best tips that work. You can then use these to create your very own skin care routine with the products you prefer. The products that I suggest are ones that have worked for me. I only recommend them as a starting point for you, in case you don’t already have a certain product in mind.

Okay so these are the tips that you should keep in mind when you are creating your own skin care routine.

1. Find Out Your Skin Type

This is an important one. We all have different skin types: dry skin, oily skin, a combination of the two, sensitive skin or just normal skin. On top of this, your skin type may change from when you were a teen to your 20’s and so on.

Most products work on specific skin types. This is why it is important to pinpoint your exact skin type. Else you may find that you are using that might be doing more harm than good.

2. Be Consistent

Consistency is key. That is essentially the purpose of developing a skin care routine. It is so that you have steps that you can follow consistently. The best thing you can do for your skin is to stick to your routine in the morning and the evening. It is how you ensure constantly healthy skin. If your skin care routine works, stick to it and follow it regularly.

I know it is not easy to be consistent. But it is best to try and keep at it for the first three weeks. It has been proven that 3 weeks is how long it takes to develop a good habit. And trust me it will be easier after that.

Since we have different skin types, it will not react in the same way to skin care products. I struggled with this for a while. I would try out a product and give up on it before it even starts showing results. so you should try and be patient and give a product a chance to work before giving. Of course if the product is bad for you, and causes something bad like irritation, you should definitely stop using it immediately.

3. Keep it Simple

Now to be consistent, it’s best for you to keep your skin care routine as simple as possible. Keep it to the minimum and essential products only.

If your routine is so long and has too many products in it, you are most likely not going to be consistent with it. Imagine feeling so sleepy and you remember that you have an extensive 30 minute long evening skin care routine that you still need to ! You are probably just going to skip it. And once this starts happening, chances are that you are not going to go back to being consistent with it.

4. Include the Basic Products

The steps to include in your basic skin care routine are cleanse, tone and moisturize. In the spirit of keeping it simple you can stick to just these three steps.

A cleanser is used to remove oil, make-up and other substances that can clog your pores. Clogged pores result in acne, and you definitely don’t want that. This stage of your routine also prevents dull skin. it is also important that you choose a cleanser that is suitable for your skin. You don’t want to end up with skin that is too dry. As a start, if you have oily skin, go for a foamy cleanser. And you have dry skin, opt for a moisturizing cleanser for best results.

A toner helps remove any of the leftover makeup. But its main purpose is to replenish the skin with the right ingredients after cleansing and balance the skin’s pH. It also helps reduce patches and redness. Most toners are suited for most skin types, so you might not need a specialized product here.

Moisturize daily. You are never too young, or your skin is never to oily to skip this step in your skin care routine. Massage your moisturizer in to help lock in the moisture. If you have oily skin, use a lightweight moisturizer. And don’t forget to use directly after washing your face.

5. Don’t Skip SPF

This is the most important part of your skin care routine! I am being serious. Sunscreen is the one product that has to be in your routine. It is absolutely not negotiable. Your other products may already contain SPF but it is good to have extra protection. Sunscreen protects your skin from the damaging effects of sun rays. It slows the development of wrinkles and premature ageing. It will also prevent facial brown spots and will just leave your skin looking healthier.

Before I realized the importance of using sunscreen daily, I made the excuse that it made my skin oily. But there are so many options out there. You can find one that works for you. If you have oily skin like me, you can go for an oil-free or water-based sunscreen. And start protecting your skin. The Neutrogena Ultimate Sport Face Oil-Free Lotion Sunscreen, Spf 70+ sunscreen is than one I use which has an SPF level of 70 but anything with an SPF level of 30 or more is good enough. I just like this one because it is a sports sunscreen and I found that is really does not make my skin oily.

These tips will ensure that your personalized skin care routine is perfect for you and it works. Keeps these in mind and you surely will have great healthy skin. If the process of creating a whole personalized routine is a bit daunting for you, don’t worry. The basic skin care routine here is the best to stick to in the beginning. It is one that I started with too, and it worked really well for me. Don’t forget to be consistent with it though.

One last tip…

During the experimental stage when you have not found the routine that works well for you, I recommend that you try new products one at a time. I wouldn’t recommend trying out all products all at once. It would be difficult for you to pin down what’s working and what’s not.

Hi would you mind stating which blog platform you’re working with?
I’m planning to start my own blog in the near future but I’m having
a hard time selecting between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal.
The reason I ask is because your layout seems different then most blogs and I’m looking for something unique.
P.S Apologies for being off-topic but I had to ask!
